In order to comply with the latest regulations on chimney height, the client had to extend the existing chimney by approximately 16 metres, from 36 metres above ground to 50 metres.

The new chimney consists of two segments, the first being a 10-mm-thick 18-metre-long stainless steel (SAE 304) tube and the second, a 3-mm-thick 16-metre-long stainless steel (SAE 304) tube. Included also in the scope was the strengthening and improvement of the concrete foundation of the chimney.

Within one week during a shutdown, the existing chimney must be taken out and the new chimney must be erected. Time was of the essence, thus planning, coordination, and safety was at the heart of this critical task.
